Is Your Business a Machine or a Hot Mess?
- Shenequa Foster
Look at the calendar. It’s March 23rd. If you just felt a tiny pang of anxiety in your chest, good. That’s your intuition telling you that the "New Year, New Me" energy has officially expired, and you’re currently working your way through a business that’s running you, rather than the other way around.
In Q1, everyone is high on highlighters and new planners. But by late March? The planners are buried under a mountain of sticky notes, and that "revolutionary" filing system you started in January is now just a folder named "DESKTOP_OLD_2."
As a strategist, I don’t care about your vibes. I care about your throughput. If you’re a lawyer, a waxer, consultant, whatever... and you’re still manually typing "Thanks for reaching out, here is my pricing" six times a day, you don’t have a business.
You have a very expensive, very exhausting hobby that requires you to be a human router.
The "Admin Friction" Tax
Every time you do a task manually that a $20/month software could do, you are paying a "Tax." But you aren't paying it in dollars; you’re paying it in the hours you could be spending at brunch, at the gym, or actually doing the high-level work people pay you for.
If you’re a service provider and you’re spending 15 minutes between clients answering DMs about "Do you have any openings for Friday?" you’ve just lost money. That 15 minutes is a "leak." Over a week, those leaks turn into a flood that drowns your productivity.
The Q2 Pivot: Stop Running, Start Routing
The "March Audit" is simple. I want you to look at your sent folder from the last seven days. If more than 50% of those emails look identical, you are the bottleneck.
We aren't "pivoting" your niche. We aren't changing your prices (yet). We are pivoting your operations. To get ready for Q2, you need to audit three things:
The Intake: How does a lead become a client? If it requires more than two clicks from them and zero clicks from you, it’s broken.
The Data: Do you know where your leads are coming from, or are you just "guessing" it’s Instagram?
The Exit: When the job is done, does the system ask for the review, or do you "hope" they remember?
If you want to walk into April with your head held high, stop looking for more followers. Start looking for more friction. Find it, kill it, and automate the remains.
